One of the most extended glaciological applications of the ground penetrating radar (GPR) is the ice-thickness assessment.
Since the GPR-data distribution on the glacier is often irregular, it is usually necessary to build a digital elevation model (DEM) of the ice thickness. This type of DEM is often used to assess the glacier volume. To estimate the error of this volume calculation we need to know the error of the thickness values at the grid points of the DEM.
Our error study divides the process of error calculation in three steps: the errors of the icethickness data; the errors at the DEM of ice thickness; and the errors in ice volume.
