  • Resumen
    • Centrifugal compressors are used in many different applications in a wide variety of industries. Although there are a number of centrifugal compressor variants a particular type has been chosen upon which to concentrate. This is a single-state machine without inlet guide vanes and with a shroudless backswept impeller, a vaned diffuser and a volute collector. The focus of this article is upon the initial design phase and in order to do this the total design process has to be considered. Centrifugal compressors are designed using sophisticated aerodynamic, thermodynamic and structural mechanics techniques. However, it is shown that using typical values and simplifications a technique can be developed that enables the initial design phase to be carried out quickly and conveniently.
