    Main city center of the Alentejo region, Évora is classified as World Heritage by UNESCO (1986) and underwent significant expansion in the second half of the 20th century. A basic element supporting the processes of autonomization of life and social (re) insertion, there is a tendency for the spatial organization of access to housing in areas of great homogeneity and a strong disparity between them. Évora is marked by the socio-territorial segregation that, from the understanding of the socio-territorial characterization, of the historical and current contextualization of housing policies, the present article analyzes the current alternatives on the theme in its social, territorial and economic dimensions. The main objective of this article is to analyze how the decisions of the market and of the municipalities, through public housing policies, affect the territory of the city of Évora.

    Principal centro urbano da região Alentejo, Évora está classificada como Património Mundial pela UNESCO (1986) e sofreu uma expansão significativa na 2ª metade do séc. XX. Elemento básico de suporte aos processos de autonomização de vida e de (re)inserção social, há uma tendência para a organização espacial de acesso à habitação em áreas de grande homogeneidade interna e forte disparidade entre elas. Évora é marcada pela segregação sócio territorial que, a partir da compreensão da caracterização, da contextualização histórica e atual das políticas habitacionais, são analisadas, no presente artigo, as alternativas atuais sobre a temática nas suas dimensões sociais, territoriais e económicas. O artigo tem como principal objetivo analisar como as decisões do mercado e das autarquias, através das políticas públicas em habitação, incidem no território da cidade de Évora.
