The greatest Malagasy poet's life and works have been a permanent rivalry with the colonial civilisation. He first used Trench language and poetic patterns to tell the exile in his own land, in the Du Bellay's Regrets' way. Then he turned towards the cultural and linguistic Malagasy identity and made the main theme of his works out of them. Rabearivelo took the difficult way between French and Malagasy languages, interbreeding native inspiration and foreign poetics in a reciprocal metamorphosis. The thematic of night, especially in Traduit de la nuit, is the congruent metaphor of that poetical, historical and cultural situation. But trying to obtain with a permanent exchange between Malagasy inspiration and Trench language more than each of them could produce , he ivas at the end considered as a traitor to both sides. May be R abearivelo even thought his ambition too intimate and too universal if his ancestors couldn't approve his legitimity .
