Francisco Nieva ha introducido en la segunda mitad del siglo XX del teatro español un aire innovador y vanguardista. Frente al realismo imperante en los años 60, Nieva llenó el espacio teatral de sorpresas, de fantasía, de toda la magia simbolista que procede tanto de Valle Inclán como de los más destacados autores del teatro europeo. Desde el estreno de La carroza de plomo candente (1976) hasta la última obra representada, Salvator Rosa o el artista (2015), Nieva ha ido jalonando el teatro con una imaginación desbordante donde la expresión vanguardista se funde con las raíces de la tradición artística española.

Francisco Nieva introduced an innovative and vanguardist touch of the Spanish theatre of the second half of the 20th Century. In opposition to the prevailing realism in the 60s, Nieva filled the theatrical space of surprises, of fantasy, of all the symbolistic magic based on Valle Inclán as well all as many other relevant authors of the European theater. Since the first perfomances of La carroza de plomo candente (1976), until his last played work, Salvator Rosa o el artista (2015), Nieva has been marking out the theater with an astonishing imagination where the vanguardist expression merges with the roots of the Spanish artistic tradition..
