    Las tertulias han jugado un papel central en la vida social y el desarrollo democrático de las sociedades y, desde esa centralidad, han construido un retrato bastante fiel del clima político de cada momento histórico: las cuestiones latentes de fondo, las distintas fuerzas en disputa, los anhelos de progreso. Este tipo de conversación informal, ya institucionalizada, ha sobrevivido a los cambios de época y ha sabido adaptarse a las transformaciones estructurales de las sociedades en las que se inserta; pero esa adaptación ha venido acompañada de cambios en la propia naturaleza de la tertulia que no siempre han jugado a su favor. En este artículo exploramos algunos de esos elementos y analizamos su relación con el tipo de ciudadanía que estas reuniones contribuyen a construir.

    Talking shops have played a major role in social and democratic life of societies and, from that position, they have always faithfully portrayed the essence of every political period: the underlying issues, the forces in dispute, the longing for progress. This kind of informal but institutionalized conversation has survived changes over time and successfully adapted to the structural transformations of society. However, that adjustment has been accompanied by some important changes in the very nature of these gatherings —now usually talk shows— that are not very constructive. Throughout this article, we will address some of these elements and we will explore their relationship with the kind of citizenship they contribute to build.
