Resumen de Vacunas antineumocócicas conjugadas: revisión de la efectividad de las vacunas 10 y 13 valentes frente al neumococo en edad pediátrica

  El Streptococcus Pneumoniae (Neumococo) es uno de los principales causantes de enfermedad grave en la infancia en todo el mundo. La Organización Mundial de la Salud (OMS) calcula que más de 1,6 millones de personas mueren de infección neumocócica cada año, siendo la mitad de estas muertes en niños menores de 5 años. El objetivo del trabajo es revisar lo expresado en la literatura publicada sobre la efectividad de las dos vacunas antineumocócicas conjugadas autorizadas actualmente por la Agencia Española de Medicamentos y Productos Sanitarios en España para menores de 5 años frente a los serotipos vacunales. Se realiza metodológicamente a través de una revisión bibliográfica mediante búsquedas en Medline, Up- ToDate y la Biblioteca Cochrane, utilizando las palabras clave efectividad, coste, vacunas neumocócicas. En los resultados se objetivan la eficacia y efectividad protectoras de ambas vacunas antineumocócicas conjugadas frente a enfermedad neumocócica invasiva, neumonía y otitis media aguda. Como conclusión, se puede afirmar que ambas vacunas son igualmente válidas para la prevención de la enfermedad neumocócica invasiva, neumonía y otitis media aguda, siendo interesante seguir investigando sobre el tema.

  Streptococcus Pneumoniae (Pneumococcus) is one of the main causes of serious childhood illness throughout the world. The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that more than 1,6 million people die of pneumococcal infections every year, half of which occur in children below the age of 5. The aim of this study is to review the published literature on the effectiveness of the two pneumococcal conjugate vaccines currently approved by the Spanish Agency of Medicines and Medical Devices for children below the age of 5 against vaccine serotypes. The research is carried out through a literature review of academic publications in Medline, UpToDate and the Cochrane Library, using the keywords effectiveness, cost and Pneumococcal vaccine. The results show the protective efficacy and effectiveness of both pneumococcal conjugate vaccines against invasive pneumococcal infection, pneumonia and acute otitis media. As a conclusion, it can be affirmed that both vaccines are equally effective for the prevention of invasive pneumococcal infection, pneumonia and acute otitis media, though further research on the area is needed.
