  • Resumen
    • Natural zeolites can occur as large single crystal, but It has so far been difficult to synthesize them in the laboratory. The formation of large zeolite single can be achieved by controlling the factors affecting the nucléation and crystallization process. In this work gigant silicalite crystals were synthesized from a piece of quartz glass as the silica source under hydrothermal conditions with a size until 3mm.

These crystals can use as a way to obtain a silicalite standard. Large crystals of zeolites with other framework, such as analcime or cancrinite, were also synthesized under similar preparation procedure, getting a crystal size of 2 and 0.008 mm respectively. Phase changes have been taken place by varying some of the synthesis parameters. Optical microscopy, scanning electromicroscopy and atomic force microscopy were used to determine the crystal size and morphology of the products. These crystals have been also characterized using XRD techniques. Therefore, optimization of the synthesis parameters allowed us to grow large crystals of silicalite, analcime and cancrinite.
