  • Awareness of both chemical safety and chemical security is important in order to avoid or reduce any adverse effects of chemical use; hence, both these topics should be incorporated into the education system to educate students on the benefits and risks of chemical use. This article is based on a case study investigating the school laboratories in Malaysia, and the chemistry programs offered in Malaysia’s universities, to ascertain components of chemical safety and chemical security in the respective systems. Findings indicate that greater emphasis is placed on chemical safety rather than on chemical security. Taking into account the current situation, this article presents an integrated framework for chemical safety and chemical security. The framework is established using chemical safety as a basis; hence, it is expected that it would have a better acceptance level among the users. The framework can be used as a teaching aid to facilitate the teaching and learning process involving both chemical safety and security.
