    El presente trabajo se propone reflexionar sobre distintas perspectivas de Thomas Hobbes como pedagogo del Estado frente a, en primer lugar, los habitantes de las islas británicas. Intentaremos demostrar que el filósofo inglés escribe su obra más reconocida, el Leviatán, con fines fundamentalmente educativos. Con este propósito, Hobbes desarrolla estrategias didácticas desplegadas alrededor de la mítica figura de un monstruo bíblico. La intención del autor es conmover a los hombres para que puedan comprender e interpretar el origen del Estado, su importancia, sus fundamentos y atributos. Para esto último recurre a diversas técnicas más bien de dramaturgo o publicista, entendiendo la dificultad de explicar el contrato o pacto social a un público acostumbrado a otra fundamentación de la legitimidad del poder político. Podemos hoy aprender del primer educador “moderno” del Estado para inspirarnos en nuestra tarea docente frente a un aula de estudiantes posmodernos que han, en gran parte, internalizado al Estado a través de la costumbre. El monstruo ha perdido espectacularidad, pero sigue siendo una ficción digna de contar a los futuros abogados.

    This article aims to reflect on different perspectives of Thomas Hobbes as a State educator of the inhabitants of the British Islands. We will try to demonstrate that this English philosopher wrote his most famous work, the Leviathan, with fundamentally educational aims. Therefore, Hobbes developed didactical strategies around the mythical figure of a biblical monster. The purpose of the author is to cause an effect on people and make them understand the origin of the State, its importance, foundations and attributes. In order to achieve that, Hobbes applies different techniques related to those used by playwrights or publicists, considering the complexity of explaining the social contract to a public that is used to another foundation of the legitimacy of the political power. Today, we can learn from the first educator of the “modern” State and this can inspire us in our teaching task in front of a classroom full of postmodern students who have mostly internalized the concept of the State day by day. The monster has lost its spectacular nature but it still remains a fiction worth telling to future lawyers.
