The Arab Spring shattered Ankara’s discourse that presented Turkey as a key ator in the Middle East and a democratic model that would contribute for peace in the region. In the following years, Turkish foreign policy was defined by a lack of a clear guideline and for short term responses to the events in the Middle East.
Currently, under the presidency of Recep Tayyip Erdo˘gan, Turkey is trying to reestablish itself, leaving behind the idealism of Davuto˘glu’s foreign policy. Ankara focuses now on strengthening strategic alliances with several actors, namely with Russia, but Turkey doesn’t abandon the alliances with the United States or the European Union.
