Agustín anuncia que va a cumplir la promesa que les ha hecho de explicar el «sacramento del Señor» identificado ahora con la Eucaristía, culminación de los ritos de iniciación que recibieron. Dice que es imprescindible la comprensión del misterio –mistagogia–, que la fe tiene que ser instruida y a ello dedica la catequesis.
Estos misterios tan grandes, lo máximo que se nos puede dar, se nos confían para que los recibamos y los recibimos cuando los comemos. El misterio ha pasado a ser sacramento, lo espiritual, material.

Augustine announces that he is going to fulfil the promise he made to them to explain «the sacrament of the Lord» now identified with the Eucharist, the culmination of the initiation rites they received. He says that it is essential to understand the mystery –mystagogy–, that faith must be taught, and to this he dedicates his catechesis. These great mysteries, the most that can be given to us, are entrusted to us so that we receive them, and we receive them when we eat them. Mystery has become sacrament, spiritual has become material.
