  • The new Tectonic Map of Spain at scale 1:2.000.000 has been produced by the IC M E (Spanish Geological Survey) 32 years after the publication of the first Tectonic Map of the Iberian Peninsula in 1972. This new map is bassed on the Geological Map of Spain at 1:2.000.000 scale. Both tectonic an geological map have been included as ennexes in the new book "Spanish Geology", edited by the SG E and the IGME. In this Tectonic Map, those Variscan Basement and the Alpine chains have been clearly differentiated. However, regions of the Iberian Massif built by the Alpine tectonics have also been emphasized. The variety of stratigraphic and structural features ot the Iberian Massif allowed the "classical" division in six zones: Cantabrian Zone, West-Asturian-Leonese Zone, Galicia-Tras-os-Montes Zone, Central Iberian Zone and Sud-Portuguese Zone. The carboniferous sinorogenic deposits and late-orogenic basins have also been differentiated in this tectonic map. Concerning the Alpine chains, the deformed M esozoic cover has been distinguished in the Iberian and the Cantabrian-Pyrenean chains. The gently or not deformed cover domain have also been differentiated. In the Betic Cordillera has been separated the classical tectonic units: NevadoFilábride, Alpujárride, Maláguide, Campo de Gibraltar, Dorsal, Sub-Bético and Pre-Bético. Olistostrome unit located in the frontal part of the orogenic belt; have also been individualized. In the Cenozoic basins three tectonostratigraphic types were distinguished: a autochtonous forelan , piggy-back, and extensional tectonics related basins
