    Qué se está investigando y cuáles son las fuentes de conocimiento, son preguntas que se hacen los investigadores en la construcción de nuevos avances científicos. La investigación sobre legitimidad y educación superior ha crecido tanto en los últimos años que es difícil conseguir una visión actual de la situación en la que se encuentra este campo de investigación. El propósito de esta investigación es identificar y visualizar el estado actual de la investigación en el campo de legitimidad y la educación superior. Mediante una metodología bibliométrica basada en co-citas, se analiza la estructura intelectual actual de este campo de investigación, y se identifican las principales áreas de investigación, los contribuyentes principales y las vías de difusión de este conocimiento. Este trabajo contribuye al desarrollo del campo de legitimidad y educación superior proporcionando una visión integral de la situación de este dominio, un punto de partida y una base teórica apropiada para que los investigadores puedan construir nuevos avances.

    What is being researched and which is the sources of knowledge? Those are questions that researchers ask in the construction of new scientific advances. Research on legitimacy and higher education has grown in recent years. This make difficult to get a current view of the situation in which this field of research is. The purpose of this research is to identify and visualize the current state of research in the field of legitimacy and higher education. Through a bibliometric methodology based on co-citations, the current intellectual structure of this research field is analyzed. Furthermore, the main research areas, the main contributors and the means of dissemination of this knowledge are identified. This work contributes to the development of the field of legitimacy and higher education by providing an integral vision of the situation of this domain, a starting point and an adequate theoretical basis for researchers to build new advances.
