    El turismo es una actividad económica de relevancia internacional por la contribución que tiene al PIB en los países que lo han adoptado. En este sentido, los estudios de turismo tienen su origen a principios del siglo XX, a través de otras disciplinas científicas como la economía, la geografía y la sociología principalmente, pero es a partir de mediados del siglo pasado que se refleja un aumento en los estudios multidisciplinarios e interdisciplinarios.

    De tal manera que, el presente ensayo muestra la evolución de los estudios en turismo con la finalidad de exponer a quienes se inician en la investigación turística la necesidad de pasar a un enfoque que tenga tanto la relevancia cuantitativa, así como una apreciación explicativa entre las interacciones que produce esta actividad desde lo cualitativo.

    Tourism is an economic activity of international relevance due to the contribution it has to GDP in the countries that have adopted it. In this sense, tourism studies have their origin in the early twentieth century, through other scientific disciplines such as economics, geography and sociology mainly, but it is from the middle of the last century that an increase in the multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary studies.

    So, this essay shows the evolution of studies in tourism with the purpose of exposing to those who begin in tourism research the need to move to an approach that has both quantitative relevance and an explanatory assessment between the interactions that It produces this activity from the qualitative perspective.
