Pensar la ciudad desde la investigación en artes

    La finalidad del presente ensayo es reflexionar en torno al lugar que ocupa la ciudad, en tanto concepto y como hábitat, en la historiografía que se ocupó de definir la condición latinoamericana del arte y sus políticas durante el siglo XX. Considero que plantear esta interrogante constituye una invitación a redefinir la imagen del entorno urbano presente en el discurso académico en la actualidad, para así dilucidar la manera en que el contexto de la ciudad influye en las posturas que tomamos como investigadores. En ese sentido, en un primer apartado desarrollaré algunas nociones sobre la ciudad, su lógica constructiva y modos de apropiación, para luego destacar, con base en algunos ejemplos de performance y videoarte, las complejidades de vivir y transitar por el espacio urbano. Finalmente lanzaré algunas preguntas sobre el papel del arte como agente problematizador capaz de evidenciar algunas de las circunstancias nocivas que acontecen en la urbe de manera cotidiana y que, sin embargo, pasan desapercibidas para la gran mayoría de los citadinos.

    The purpose of this essay is to reflect on the place of the city, both concept and habitat, in the historiography that was responsible for defining the Latin American condition of art and its policies during the twentieth century. I consider that raising this question is an invitation to redefine the image of the urban environment present in academic discourse today; to figure out how the city context influences the positions we take as researchers. In a first section I will develop some notions about the city, its constructive logic and ways of appropriation, and then highlight, based on some examples of performance and video art, the complexities of living and transiting through the urban space. Finally I will throw some questions about the role of art as a problemizing agent capable of highlighting some of the harmful circumstances that occur in the city on a daily basis and which, however, go unnoticed for the vast majority of city.
