J. M. Martín García, Gabriel Delgado Calvo-Flores, Manuel Sánchez Marañón, Jesús Francisco Párraga Martínez, R. Delgado

  • "Red Soil" is a nomenclature widely employed in soil classifications and by many researchers. In this paper we studied how red color is used in soil classifications, we emphasized in the most important of them: "Soil Taxonomy", the FAO-UNESCO Legend and Réferentiel Pédologique Française. These classifications use red color at different level of generalization; Soil Taxonomy at Creat Croup categorie, FAO-UNESCO legend at Soil Unit level, and Référentiel Pédologique Français at firt level because color is used as diagnostic criterium of "Horizon de reference". Red soils in the mediterranean environments are only a portian of the red soils whole range.
