  • Resumen
    • The granite blocks with which the Royal Palace was built show local degradation reflected by an in crease of porosity, water absorption capacity, and the kinetics of water sorption and permeability. The rocks are especially sensitive to variations of wetting and dryness. The blocks that were substituted during the last restoration of the building do not display significant variation of their petrophysical characteristics, neither the outer nor the inner parts of the blocks. These granites were sourced by granite quarries in Zarzalejos. The Iimestones used in that restoration were made of Iimestone blocks extracted from the "Sobrebanco" level of the Colmenar de Oreja quarries, as concluded from the study of their petrographic and petrophysical features.
