    El objetivo de este artículo es presentar una aproximación a la imagen social de la Guardia Civil desde dos puntos de vista diferentes. Por un lado, recoge la representación que de la Institución se ha realizado en diversas manifestaciones de la cultura, como la literatura, el cine, la televisión, la pintura o la poesía. Una muestra de referencias en las que se entremezclan visiones positivas y negativas, como debe ser propio en un estado democrático, y producciones de muy diversa calidad. La finalidad es incitar al lector a aproximarse a la Guardia Civil a través de aquellas obras que considero más destacables. En general, se ha evitado poner el foco en producciones vinculadas a aspectos históricos del Cuerpo, para centrar la visión en manifestaciones de cultura popular.

    En la segunda parte se aporta una recopilación de encuestas realizadas en los úl- timos años, entre las que destacan las desarrolladas por el Centro de Investigaciones Sociológicas (CIS), que sitúan a la Guardia Civil como la institución en la que más confían los españoles. Tras 175 años de historia, la Guardia Civil, a través de los va- lores que la caracterizan, y que se reflejan en la acción de las mujeres y hombres que allí prestan servicio, ha sabido superar tanto momentos históricos en que su propia continuidad estuvo en juego como los impactos en su imagen por hechos deleznables, generalmente cometidos por individuos concretos, impropios de un sistema democrático avanzado, y a todas luces injustificables y condenables

    The objective of this article is to present an approach to the social image of the Civil Guard from two different points of view. On the one hand, it includes the representation of the Institution that has been made in differents cultural productions, such as literatu- re, cinema, television, painting or poetry. A sample of references in which positive and negative visions and withe very different quality are combined, as it should be proper in a democratic state. The purpose is to encourage the reader to approach the Civil Guard through those works that I consider most remarkable. In general, the focus has avoided to mention productions linked to historical aspects of the organization, in to focus the vision on manifestations of popular culture. The second part provides a collection of surveys conducted in recent years, including those developed by the Center for Sociological Research (CIS), which place the Civil Guard as the institution that gets the higher punctuation in trust in Spain. After 175 years of history, the Civil Guard, through the values that characterize it, and which are reflected in the action of the wo- men and men who serve there, have managed to overcome both historical moments in which their own continuity was at stake as the impacts on its image by despicable, unjustifiable and condemnable acts, generally committed by concrete individuals, unfit for an advanced democratic system.
