    ABSTRACT: The nutritional status of the hospitalized patient is associated with its clinical evolution and capacity of reaction to the pathological process. The patient with low weight presents the hightest rates of morbidity and mortality and greatest infectious and postoperative complications, with consequent increase of the hospital permanence. Being about aged, the picture can be more serious, therefore alterations in its physiological and psychological state have great influence in its nutritional state. The objective of the present study was to evaluate the nutritional profile of elderly patients of a hospital in the private sector of the São Paulo city. The studied population was composed for 50 aged people above 65 years old, of both the sexes, interned in the period from March to April, 2007 in private hospital of São Paulo city. Anthropometrical evaluation was carried through, being classified according to Burr & Phillips (1984). The data tabulation was made in the Microsoft Office Excel 2007 worksheet. Prevalence of the feminine sex in the studied population was verified. 18% of the aged ones had presented malnutrition and 30% had presented weight excess. It had greater prevalence of elderly patients with cancer (22%) being that, in this area of attendance it had greater number of patients with malnutrition (6%). In the period of superior internment the 30 days, prevalence of patients with malnutrition was verified (6%). It was verified that the malnutrition in private hospital was lesser of that in hospitals of the public service. On the other hand, the weight excess was very significant. The main reason of the gotten results can be the best socioeconomic level presented by the studied population.

    RESUMO: O estado nutricional do paciente hospitalizado está associado com sua evolução clinica e capacidade de reação ao processo patológico. Quando apresenta baixo peso possui maiores índices de morbidade e mortalidade e maiores complicações infecciosas e pós-operatórias, com conseqüente aumento da permanência hospitalar. Tratando-se de idosos, o quadro pode ser mais grave, pois alterações no seu estado fisiológico e psicológico têm grande influência no seu estado nutricional. Este estudo teve como objetivo avaliar o perfil nutricional de pacientes idosos de um hospital da rede privada do município de São Paulo. A população estudada foi composta por 50 idosos com idade a partir de 65 anos, de ambos os sexos, internados no período de 12 de Março a 16 de Abril de 2007 em hospital privado do município de São Paulo. Foi realizada avaliação antropométrica, sendo classificada segundo Burr & Phillips (1984). A tabulação dos dados foi feita no programa Microsoft Office Excel 2007. Verificouse prevalência do sexo feminino na população estudada. 18% dos idosos apresentaram magreza e 30% apresentaram excesso de peso. Houve maior prevalência de pacientes idosos com câncer (22%) sendo que, nessa área de atendimento houve maior número de pacientes com magreza (6%). No período de internação superior a 30 dias, verificou-se prevalência de pacientes com magreza (6%). Verificou-se que a desnutrição em hospital particular foi menor do que em hospitais da rede pública. Por outro lado, o excesso de peso foi muito significativo. A razão principal dos resultados obtidos pode ser o melhor nível socioeconômico apresentado pela população estudada.
