Resumen de Comportamiento humano en un sitio de anidación de jabirú (Jabiru mycteria) en Costa Rica

  El Jabiru mycteria es una cigüeña amenazada de América, considerada en Costa Rica en peligro de extinción y restringida a la cuenca de los ríos Tempisque y Frío. En el año 2018, se encontró el primer nido al lado de una carretera de alto tránsito vehicular. De enero a abril del 2018, se registró el comportamiento de las personas en el sitio de anidación. Se identificaron cuatro tipos de comportamientos generales, unos solo observaron el nido y otros salieron del vehículo, acercándose y llamando la atención de los jabirúes. Los comportamientos humanos no afectaron la reproducción del grupo familiar de jabirú, pero sí exhibieron comportamientos de alarma como: sonidos emitidos con el pico, no alimentaron ni dejaron solo al pichón ante la presencia humana. Se sugiere la regulación de la visitación en sitios de anidación de esta especie en peligro de extinción.

  The Jabiru mycteria is a threatened stork of America considered in Costa Rica in danger of extinction and is restricted to the basins of the Tempisque and Frio Rivers. In 2018 a nest was registered next to a highway with high vehicular traffic. From January to April 2018 the behavior of people visiting the site was recorded. Four types of human behavior were identified. Some only observed the nest, but others left their vehicle, approaching and attracting the attention of the jabiru. These behaviors did not affect the reproduction of the family group, but the jabiru exhibited alarm displays: sound emitted with their beaks, not feeding, and not leaving the chick during the presence of humans. We are recommending regulating visitation to the nesting of the endangered species.
