    • This paper reports on a small scale investigation into the way lecturing staff at a well established, medium‐sized English university perceive their role in relation to the two main functions of teaching and research. Results are discussed in relation to three Faculty Boards and some attempt is made to establish the source of factors which influence personal perceptions.
