Familia: ¿límite o expansión de la libertad?

    En este trabajo, basado en la antropología del filósofo español Leonardo Polo, se trata de ver si para salvaguardar la familia es necesario que la libertad personal se someta a ciertas reglas, o si más bien es precisamente la familia el campo apropiado para el despliegue de la libertad personal.

    En nuestra sociedad se ha realizado un trasvase en el uso del lenguaje desde el término de ‘familia’ al de ‘familias’, queriendo significar con este plural todos los diversos tipos, o modelos, de familia socialmente admitidos en la actualidad. Así, por un lado, se desea no privilegiar el antiguo sentido de familia como la basada en el matrimonio de uno con una para siempre; y, por otro lado, se quiere englobar con tal término en plural todos los imaginables modos de convivencia y las posibles combinatorias mutuas que el itinerario vital de sus miembros vaya escogiendo.

    Tal panorama cultural enarbola así la libertad como nueva conquista sobre la familia, proclamando que así se abren vías a tantos ciudadanos para una vivencia libre de la familia, sin los constreñimientos del pasado. No voy a tratar de hacer una valoración moral, histórica o cultural de tal situación.

    Simplemente tomo este significativo cambio en el uso del lenguaje para preguntar desde la filosofía antropológica de Leonardo Polo sobre qué es la persona y su libertad y qué es la familia

    In this work, based on the anthropology of the Spanish philosopher Leonardo Polo, it is discussed whether to safeguard the family it is necessary that personal freedom be subject to certain rules, or if the family is precisely the appropriate field for the deployment of personal freedom.

    In our society there has been a transfer in the use of language from the term ‘family’ to the term ‘families’, meaning with this plural all the different types, or models, of family socially admitted today. Thus, on one hand, it is wished not to privilege the old sense of family: the one based on the marriage of one with one forever. On the other hand, it is intended to encompass with such a plural term all the imaginable ways of living together, and the possible mutual combinations that the vital itinerary of its members choose.

    Such a cultural panorama raises freedom as a new conquest over the family, proclaiming that this way of thinking open up new avenues for so many citizens for a free experience of the family, without the constraints of the past. I will not try to make a moral, historical or cultural assessment of this notion of families. I simply take this significant change in the use of language to ask from Leonardo Polo’s anthropological philosophy about what the person is and what their freedom and family are
