Africa has its history that still needs to be rewritten and reinterpreted for having lived for years "mutilated by the force of facts" that alienated Africans from their past and created the idea of a unique Africa. The biography of Nzinga Mbandi is an example of this treatment given to the History of the African Continent. It has been an inexhaustible source that fuels and supports a series of identity projects. The present article aims, from some discourses that have been elaborated on the personage by the capuchinho Cavazzi, to demonstrate how much the biographical writing can serve to certain projects that mold the biografado, constructing history and memory according to what is intended. Thus, it is incumbent upon the historian who engages in the biographical genre to be aware that both the discourse he receives and what he produces is never neutral.

A África tem sua história que ainda necessita ser reescrita e reinterpretada por ter vivido por anos "mutilada pela força dos fatos" que alienava os africanos de seu passado e criava a ideia de uma África única. A biografia de Nzinga Mbandi é um exemplo desse tratamento dado à história do Continente Africano. Ela tem sido fonte inesgotável que abastece e respalda uma série de projetos identitários. O presente artigo almeja, a partir dos discursos elaborados sobre a personagem pelo padre capuchinho Cavazzi, demonstrar o quanto a escrita biográfica pode servir a determinados projetos que moldam o biografado, construindo história e memória de acordo com o que é pretendido. Assim, compete ao historiador que se dedica ao gênero biográfico ter consciência de que tanto o discurso que recebe como o que produz nunca é neutro
