A lo largo del siglo XIX se empezó a gestar en España el interés por el Antiguo Oriente. La búsqueda de los lugares y las culturas que aparecían en la Biblia fueron un reclamo para una élite social muy ligada a las corrientes de pensamiento europeas.
De este modo, el interés cultural sobre los antiguos pueblos que habitaron en Oriente comenzó a tornarse un ejercicio científico, debido a la necesidad de conocer y comprender su pasado. Un proceso complejo compuesto por un amplio elenco de vectores: Publicaciones periódicas, congresos, libros de viaje, estudios, excavaciones arqueológicas, escuelas y Universidades, entre otros elementos reseñables. En el presente artículo se analizaran algunos de estos componentes que configuraron el nacimiento de la ciencia dedicada al Antiguo Oriente en España, un país que por cuestiones históricas contempló aquél Oriente con cierta familiaridad.

Along the 19th century began to be conceived in Spain the interest in the Ancient Orient. The search of the places and cultures that appeared in the Bible was a claim for the social elite very tied to the European´s School of thoughts. Thereby, the cultural interest in ancient people who lived in Orient begun to be a scientific exercise, due to the requirement to know and understand her past. A complex process integrated for a wide catalogue of vectors: periodic publications, congress, travel´s books, investigations, archaeology excavations, schools and universities, among others worth mentioning elements. In the present article will be analyzed some of these components that form the birth of the science dedicated to the Ancient Orient in Spain, a country that contemplate these Orient with familiarity because history reasons.
