The present curriculum in the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka, is reviewed in the light of a brief historical survey of technical education in Sri Lanka from 1893 to 1969. A framework to evolve a new curriculum to remove many of the serious shortcomings of the present curriculum and of the influence of past history is presented, explained and justified.
