The article presents an interpretation of the specifically Protestant notion of Church reform. It is argued that the theme of justification by grace not only was not the crux of the debate in the 16th c., which later became a conflict, but that it is not the crux of the debate today either. The nucleus of disagreement is, in contrast, in what is understood by “the Church”, as well as its ministerial functions and the exercise of doctrinal authority and of discipline within it. The article closes with a presentation of these themes as being also important in the current ecumenical dialogue, for their relevance to the conside-ration of what to do with regard to the secularized churches of Europe.

L’article presenta una interpretació de la noció específicament protestant de la reforma de l’Església. Es manté que el tema de la justificació per la gràcia no només no havia constituït en el segle XVI el nòdul crucial del debat, després esdevingut conflicte, sinó que tampoc ho constitueix ara. La discrepància, en canvi, se centra en el mode d’entendre l’Església, les seves articulacions ministerials i l’exercici de la autoritat doctrinal i disciplinar en el seu si. L’assaig conclou amb la presentació d’aquests temes com a importants també per al diàleg ecumènic actual, en la mesura en què s’entengui com fer-se càrrec de les esglésies de l’Europa secularitzada.
