  • Book clubs – a phenomenon that comes from afar – have experiencedremarkable quantitative and qualitative expansion lately. This paper aims at describingthe deployment of book clubs in Catalonia, the Valencian Country and the BalearicIslands for the first time. The research is based on a survey carried out among the pub-lic libraries of the three territories and intends to describe the main features of thisphenomenon, including the linguistic uses in this particular context. The results show adifferent degree of deployment of book clubs, which is a more ingrained and diversifiedphenomenon in Catalonia than in the other territories. The comparative study of thecharacteristics of book clubs allows us to suggest strategies to facilitate the expansion ofbook clubs in the Valencian Country and the Balearic Islands.
