Los kurdos son un grupo cuyo origen se sitúa en el 3000 a.C. Ocupan el arco que va desde el Sudeste de Turquía hasta Irán. Siempre tuvieron un encaje problemático con las dos grandes polis de la zona, Irán y la Sublime Puerta. Pero desde que se aplicó el concepto de nación Estado su suerte empeoró todavía más. Encajar a los kurdos en esa forma política resultó imposible. El autor ve con simpatía la constitución de una Región Autónoma en Irak pues podría ser la manera de resolver una cuestión con la que no pudieron ni los Imperios ni los Estados.

Kurds are an ethnic group going back to the 3000 b.C. and occupy an arch that goes from southeast Turkey to Iran. Always at odds with the two big polities of the zone, Iran and the Sublime Porte, its fate became even more intractable from the moment those territories underwent the transformation into nation states. To fit the kurds into these polities has proved impossible. The author sees with relief the constitution of an autonomous region of Kurdistan in Irak as a possible mean to solve an issue that neither Empires nor States were able to face and fix.
