En la segunda mitad de los sesenta, el grupo de pintores valencianos Equipo Crónica (Rafael Solbes y Manuel Valdés) realizó un conjunto de 6 cómics, inéditos, cuyos originales se conservan actualmente en el Institut Valencià d'Art Modern (Valencia). Aunque este grupo es conocido por su pintura, serigrafías y múltiples, al principio de su trayectoria artística, se nutrieron del cómic como producto derivado de la cultura de masas y la sociedad de consumo. Sus cómics registrarán, entre otras cuestiones, el aumento de las tensiones de la Guerra Fría provocada por la introducción abierta de EE.UU. en el conflicto de Vietnam, las luchas por los derechos civiles de los negros, los movimientos pacifistas, el movimiento contracultural, la liberación sexual, la psicodelia, el mayo del 68 y el Pop Art. Analizando estos cómics y sus referentes, observaremos los vínculos con su obra conocida y en qué maneracontribuyeron a transformar su lenguaje pictórico.

In the last years of the Sixties, the group of Valencian painters Equipo Crónica (Rafael Solbes and Manuel Valdés) made a set of 6 unpublished comics, which originals are currently kept at the Institut Valencià d'Art Modern (Valencia). Although this group is known for its painting, serigraphs, and multiples, at the beginning of their artistic career, they drew on comics as a product derived from mass culture and consumer society. Their comics will record the rise of tensions in Cold War caused by the open introduction of the US. in the Vietnam conflict, the struggles for the civil rights, the pacifist movements, the countercultural movement, sexual liberation, psychedelia, May '68 in France, and Pop Art, among other issues. Analyzing these comics and their references, we will observe the links with their well-known artistic work and how they contributed to transform their language.
