El alcance y la intensidad de las reflexiones filosóficas de Giovanni Piana sobre las artes, y especialmente sobre las vicisitudes del arte del siglo XX en el conjunto de su producción teórica no se limitan al proyecto de delinear una filosofía de la música que efectivamente se ha convertido, desde la década de 1990, en el centro de sus intereses teóricos. El arte del siglo XX y sus vanguardias representaron para Piana un argumento lleno de sugestión e interés. El objetivo del artículo es indicar la razón por la cual en el curso de sus estudios Piana siente una creciente necesidad de discutir sobre el arte contemporáneo. Reflexionar sobre el arte del siglo XX, no solo significa arrojar luz sobre los valores expresivos propios de las formas elementales de la experiencia, sino que para Piana también ha significado volver a cuestionar el nexo que junta la estructura material del sonido y, en general, de los materiales de la experiencia con las formas en las que están codificados lingüísticamente.

The scope and intensity of Giovanni Piana's philosophical reflections on the arts, and especially on the vicissitudes of twentieth-century art in the whole of his theoretical production are not limited to the project of delineating a philosophy of music that has effectively become, since the 1990s, the center of his theoretical interests. The art of the 20th century and its avant-gardes represented for Piana an argument full of suggestion and interest. The aim of the paper is to indicate the reason why in the course of his studies, Piana feels a growing need to discuss contemporary art. Reflecting on twentieth-century art not only means shedding light on the expressive values of the elemental forms of experience, but for Piana it also meant questioning the nexus that joins the material structure of sound and, in general, of the materials of the experience with the forms in which they are coded linguistically.
