    Iraq se encuentra sumido en una profunda crisis con el país al borde de la desintegración y en medio de una ofensiva fulgurante llevada a cabo por los combatientes del Estado Islámico de Iraq y Levante (EIIL), lo que les ha llevado a ocupar en el mes de junio la importante ciudad de Mosul capital de la región suní y a aproximarse a las puertas de la capital Bagdad. Este espectacular avance de los islamistas considerados hace unos meses como una fuerza en declive tras haber sufrido importantes reveses en Siria a finales del año 2013, plantea el interrogante de intentar averiguar cuáles han sido las claves del éxito de unas fuerzas muy reducidas en tamaño y supuestamente muy inferiores en material y calidad al ejército regular de Iraq, adiestrado y equipado por los Estados Unidos. ¿Cuáles son los límites territoriales de la expansión de los islamistas suníes? ¿Cuáles son las opciones políticas y militares que se le ofrecen al gobierno del Primer Ministro Nuri al Maliki? ¿Hasta qué punto está Iraq al borde de la desintegración o de la guerra civil?

    Iraq is plunged in a deep crisis with the country on the verge of disintegration and in the middle of a shining offensive by the combatants of the Islamic State of Iraq and The Levant (ISIS), which has led them to conquering the important city of Mosul capital of the Sunni region in June and coming closer to Baghdad. This spectacular advance of the Islamic radicals considered only a few months ago like a declining force that had suffered important reverses in Syria at the end of the year 2013, raises the question of trying to figure out which have been the keys of the success of a reduced Force supposedly inferior in material and quality to the regular army of Iraq, trained and equipped by the United States. Which are the territorial limits of the expansion of the Islamic Sunnis? What are the options for the government of the Prime Minister Nouri al Maliki? Up to what point is Iraq on the verge of disintegration or civil war?
