Resumen de Los términos tragoedus, comoedus, tragicus y comicus en la obra de Isidoro de Sevilla

Isidoro de Sevilla trató el teatro y los diferentes oficios escénicos en varios lugares de su obra, ofreciendo distintas reflexiones sobre estos temas. En este artículo se analizan las acepciones que los términos tragoedus, tragicus, comoedus y comicus tienen en la obra del obispo hispalense partiendo de la totalidad de los pasajes isidorianos en los que aparecen. La escasa bibliografía existente ha defendido una supuesta confusión isidoriana entre los términos traagoedus y tragicus, por un lado, y comoedus y comicus, por otro; términos que, según la crítica, han sido usados por Isidoro indistintamente para nombrar a los actores y los autores de las tragedias, los dos primeros, y de las comedias, los dos segundos, sin distinción alguna de significado. Sin embargo, el análisis llevado a cabo en este trabajo servirá para comprobar el grado de conocimiento que el doctor hispalense tiene del significado de estos sustantivos, así como una tendencia mayoritaria a la hora de utilizarlos

Throughout his work, Isidore of Seville provides distinct reflections on theatre and the different theatrical trades. Bearing in mind the totality of the Isidorian passages in which they appear, we analyse in this article the acceptations that the terms «tragoedus», «comoedus», «tragicus» and «comicus» have in the work of the Sevillian archbishop. The scarce bibliography on the matter has suggested the existence of an alleged Isidorian confusion between the terms «tragoedus» and «tragicus» on the one hand and «comoedus» and «comicus» on the other. According to the critics, the first two items were used interchangeably by Isidore to refer to both the actors and the authors of a tragedy; likewise, the latter two were employed without distinction to mean those of a comedy. The present study aims, nevertheless, to clarify Isidore's degree of knowledge of the meaning of these nouns as well as his mayority trend when using them.
