To date, research about women's career opportunities in the hospitality industry has looked within segments, i.e. hotels, food service, clubs. This study focuses on the functional area, surveying women executives in financial positions. Findings suggest that [1] Women working in this area are proactive; they are taking responsibility for their own career opportunities rather than relying so much on their companies; [2] While not completely erased, barriers to women's advancement appear to be slowly but surely coming down. Implications for further research are identified.
