Resumen de El cultivo de la Historia Natural en los institutos de Enseñanza Secundaria en la época de Daniel Jiménez de Cisneros
During the last decades of 19th century and early 20th, secondary schools constituted in Spain an important space for science, notably natural history. In fact, secondary schools were capable to assume a role in order to shelter naturalistic activities in a context poorly institutionalised.
Formation of collections of scientific value, development of original research lines -including the assumption of new scientific approaches, namely ecology-, and promotion of scientific vocations between young people, were activities assumed by secondary schools. This paper describes the cases of Secondary Schools of Valencia and Alicante and evaluate the failures of these centres as potential scientific institutions with meaningful sense.
