  • Upper-middle class families in the second half of the 19th century were quite interested in the scientific achievements of the time, in particular, those related to Physics, which became one of the more outstanding sciences. To meet these social needs many books were written devoted to popularizing science. Among these books it is worth to mention those having titles like Popular Physics, Recreational Physics or similar, which were written even by non specialists. The book Física Recreativa, published in 1873 by Eleuterio Llofriu Sagrera was one of such cases, but with the special feature that the historical and geographical context takes place in Alicante and neighbourhood, with main characters that surely could be easily recognizable by the readers.
