  • Resumen
    • In order to study a latest Tortonian/early Messlnlan marine depositional sequence at the northern margin of the Poniente Basin (Almería), several stratigraphic columns were drawn and correlated by using a photo-mosaic composition. This depositional sequence is composed by three systems tracts, which show a sea level rise. From bottom to top, these are: Lowstand systems tract, which is represented by conglomerate with calcareus matrix; Transgressive systems tract, bioclastic calcarenites composed by red algae; and Highstand systems tract, bioclastic calcarenites with abundant fossil fauna and reef limestone. This depositional sequence can be correlated with cycle TB 3.3 of the global sea-level curve (Haq et al., 1987).
