  Locum publice datum ex decreto decurionum: Genesis and evolution of the Veranii burial plot in Pompeii. During the 2017 excavation campaign in the Porta Nocera necropolis in Pompeii, the Veranii funerary enclosure delivered two inscriptions, unearthed within the foundations of the monument. These make it possible to document the existence of a new city personality, attached to a tribe previously unknown in Pompeii, who received a funeral parcel by decree of the decurions. At the same time, thanks to a detailed study of the archaeological contexts, they offer a new interpretation of the history of both the funerary monument and the Veranii family during the last decades of the Republic and the beginnings of the Principate, a key period in the establishment of a new social order, notably transcribed through funerary monuments.

  L’enclos funéraire des Veranii dans la nécropole de la Porta Nocera à Pompéi a livré lors de la campagne de fouille 2017 deux bornes inscrites, mises au jour au sein des fondations du monument. Celles-ci permettent de documenter l’existence d’une nouvelle personnalité de la cité, rattachée à une tribu jusqu’alors inédite à Pompéi, ayant reçu une parcelle funéraire par décret des décurions. Elles offrent par la même occasion, grâce à l’étude fine des contextes archéologiques, une nouvelle lecture de l’histoire du monument funéraire et de l’histoire familiale des Veranii durant les dernières décennies de la République et les débuts du Principat, période clé de la mise en place d’un nouvel ordre social, notamment retranscrit par l’intermédiaire des monuments funéraires.
