    El turismo puede influir positivamente en el desarrollo económico, social, y ambiental de una comunidad. Para que esto suceda, es necesario que las organizaciones e instituciones involucradas en esta actividad asuman una actitud responsable. A este enfoque de reciprocidad en el que el turista recibe la satisfacción de sus necesidades y deseos, y a cambio, se mejora la calidad de vida de quienes viven en el territorio receptor, su desarrollo y la preservación de los recursos para las generaciones futuras, se le conoce como turismo sostenible. En Ecuador, aunque este tema ha sido discutido durante años, los resultados deseados aún no se han logrado. El objetivo de esta investigación fue diseñar estrategias para mejorar la gestión sostenible del turismo rural alternativo en la Ruta del Encanto del cantón Portoviejo. El estudio se basó en la necesidad de conocer el potencial y las limitaciones de la gestión sostenible vinculada a la práctica del turismo rural alternativo en esta ruta. Se utilizaron métodos teóricos como el histórico-lógico, análisis - síntesis e inducción – deducción, que permitieron desarrollar un estado del arte sobre el tema y conocer la situación actual del problema. A nivel empírico se realizó un estudio bibliográfico, entrevistas con agentes del sector turístico en el área estudiada, y encuestas a clientes. En la propuesta de estrategias elaborada para la gestión del turismo rural alternativo para la ruta, se consideraron los resultados del diagnóstico realizado, desde una visión sostenible.

    Tourism can positively influence the economic, social, and environmental development of a community. For this to happen, it is necessary that the organizations and institutions involved in this activity assume a responsible attitude. To this approach of reciprocity in which the tourist receives the satisfaction of their needs and desires and, in return, the quality of life of those who live in the receiving territory is improved, their development and the preservation of resources for future generations, it is known as sustainable tourism. n Ecuador, although this topic has been discussed for years, the desired results have not yet been achieved. The objective of this research was to design strategies to improve the sustainable management of alternative rural tourism in the Route of Charm of the Portoviejo canton. The study was based on the need to know the potential and limitations of sustainable management linked to the practice of alternative rural tourism on this route. Theoretical methods such as historical-logical, analysis - synthesis and induction - deduction were used, which allowed developing a state of the art on the subject and knowing the current situation of the problem. At the empirical level, a bibliographic study, interviews with agents of the tourism sector in the studied area, and customer surveys were carried out. In the proposed strategies developed for the management of alternative rural tourism for the route, the results of the diagnosis carried out were considered, from a sustainable perspective.
