La migración internacional de retorno y su vinculación con el mundo familiar es una relación analítica que ha recibido poca atención en los estudios migratorios, en consecuencia, este artículo tiene como propósito establecer algunos antecedentes respecto a la incorporación del retorno y la familia en las perspectivas teóricas más relevantes del campo. Específicamente, se avizora cómo han sido conceptualizados los movimientos de regreso, y la manera cómo la familia ha sido integrada a la teorización del retorno. La revisión realizada muestra que el transnacionalismo permite una articulación más explícita entre estas dos áreas de conocimiento, dando lugar a reformulaciones conceptuales y nuevos cauces de investigación que amplían las líneas de estudio y las vinculaciones temáticas, lo cual se ha traducido en un viraje en donde la familia adquiere una especial relevancia analítica.

International return migration and its link to the family world is an analytical relationship that has received little attention in migration studies, consequently, this article aims to establish some background regarding the incorporation of return and the family in theoretical perspectives most relevant in the field. Specifically, it envisions how the return movements have been conceptualized, and the way in which the family has been integrated into the return theorization. The review carried out shows that transnationalism allows a more explicit articulation between these two areas of knowledge, giving rise to conceptual reformulations and new research channels that broaden the lines of study and thematic links, which has resulted in a shift where the family acquires a special analytical relevance.
