El consumo excesivo de alcohol es un problema mundial por los múltiples padecimientos que produce, y por el número de muertes que causa, además del impacto familiar y de los entornos cercanos. Es por ello que, el principal interés en este estudio fue el conocimiento y entendimiento de los motivos que conducen al inicio del consumo de alcohol. Se diseñó un estudio cualitativo con un análisis interpretativo, en estudiantes de una secundaria pública en Guadalajara. Para la recolección de los datos se aplicaron listados libres y entrevistas a tres grupos focales. Las categorías de análisis se definieron desde el modelo ecológico. Encontramos que el microsistema fue la dimensión más importante para explicar el inicio de consumo de alcohol, dado que determina la actividad, el rol y la relación interpersonal. La segunda fue el mesosistema, que refiere las interrelaciones entre los entornos, seguida el macrosistema que enmarca los contrastes sociales, las subculturas y los sistemas de creencias y estilos de vida. Se sugiere que el consumo de alcohol no es de orden individual y se proponen recomendaciones multidimensionales.

Excessive alcohol consumption is a global problem because of the many conditions it causes, and the number of deaths it causes, in addition to the impact on families and nearby environments. Therefore, the main interest in this study was the knowledge and understanding of the reasons that lead to the onset of alcohol consumption. A qualitative study was designed with an interpretive analysis, in students of a public high school in Guadalajara. For the collection of the data, free lists and interviews were applied to three focus groups. The categories of analysis were defined from the ecological model. The microsystem was found to be the most important dimension to explain the onset of alcohol consumption; in which the most important descriptors were depression and feelings of loneliness. The second dimension was the mesosystem, which highlighted family problems and courtship; the macrosystem where social influence and expectation of fun were highlighted; and finally the exosystem where social acceptance and bullying were highlighted as causes for the initiation of consumption. It is suggested that alcohol consumption is not of an individual order and multidimensional recommendations are proposed.
