  O estudo empreendido tem por objeto central examinar a contribuição do Tribunal Internacional sobre Direito do Mar para construção do Direito Internacional Ambiental, com ênfase no meio ambiente marinho. Os oceanos comportam diversas funções ambientais com um inquestionável protagonismo na gestão ambiental internacional. No meio ambiente marinho a tríade – ecológica, social, econômica - é plenamente materializada. Essa importância foi reconhecida e prestigiada com a constituição do Tribunal Internacional sobre Direito do Mar, corte internacional estabelecida pela Convenção de Montego Bay para dirimir disputas internacionais sobre Direito do Mar. Conhecer sua estrutura e jurisprudência é fundamental para progressão da proteção internacional do meio ambiente.

  The central object study examines the contribution of the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea to the construction of international environmental law, with an emphasis on the marine environment. The oceans have several environmental functions, with an unquestionable role in international environmental management. In the marine environment - ecological, social, economic - is fully materialized. This importance was approved and honored with the constitution of the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea, an international court established by the Montego Bay Convention to settle international disputes on the law of the sea. Knowing its structure and jurisprudence is fundamental for the progress of international protection in the environment.
