Resumen de Un dios de sanación y de destino: La presencia de los mitos y atributos odínicos en la serie Vikings (2013)

En estos últimos años, la historia y la cultura germánica de la época vikinga han visto incrementada su presencia en el medio audiovisual, tal y como demuestra la aparición de la serie Vikings (2013). Concretamente, esta última incorpora frecuentemente referencias a los mitos asociados a Óðinn —una de las divinidades centrales del panteón nórdico—, cuyos atributos aparecen, además, reflejados en algunos de los personajes. Así, el objetivo de este artículo es analizar, por un lado, cómo los relatos y características vinculados con el dios se adaptan a las exigencias de la trama y, por otro, explicar en qué medida las alusiones a esta divinidad evocan los significados que los mitos odínicos encerraban en su contexto original. Tras este análisis será posible concluir que los poderes que el antiguo mundo escandinavo atribuía a Óðinn en relación con el destino y la magia curativa determinan el futuro de algunos de los protagonistas de Vikings.

In these past few years, the presence of the medieval Scandinavian history and culture has increased in the audiovisual medium, as is shown by the release of Vikings (2013). In particular, this television series often includes references to the myths associated with Óðinn —a main deity of the Norse—, whose attributes are, in addition, reflected in some characters of this historical drama. Thus, the aim of this paper is to analyze, on the one hand, how the stories and features of that god adapt to the plot demands and, on the other hand, to explain to what extent the allusions to this deity recall the meanings which Odinic myths had in their original context. After this analysis, it will be possible to conclude that the powers which the ancient Germanic world attributed to Óðinn in relation to fate and curative magic determine the future of some Vikings main characters.
