Natural overelevated straight courses corresponding to torrent channels are located at a higher topographic level than the surrounding flood plain areas. It is a morphology and a channelized convex-up sedimentary body where the vertical accretion and the levees growth episodes were coeval. The "rambla" type course corresponds to a braided sand river. It is short and with a high gradient ranging from 3.2% to 3.4% in the Riera de Arenys (Sobirans). The source area is made up of granitic rocks that produce large amounts of sandy sediments. The ramblas, located in the El Barcelonés and Maresme areas, are good examples of overelevated courses characterised by episodic water discharges which are interrupted by several dry periods with no superficial water discharge.
We propose the name of Sobirans in order to denominate this special morphotype.
