  • Resumen
    • This essay explores the relationship between theater and novel in Riccardo Bacchelli’s work entitled L’incendio di Milano (1952). This work is an hybrid of both narrative prose and theatre, a dark story of pain, isolation and persecution during the Second World War and Italy’s occupation by the Nazis. It is relevant to see how the integration of the fiction, both theatrical and novelistic, with history actually works: it is a sophisticated reflection on what war does to every individual, how the relationships are changed and how the personality is forced to evolve. Work of fiction written by one of the most prominent historical novelists Italy has had in the XXth Century, L’incendio di Milano, historical novel with a relevant theater component, is an important part of Bacchelli’s narrative production, a not very popular work whose interaction with the historical discourse and the philosophy of history is paramount and absolutely worth analyzing.
