    O presente estudo versa sobre a atuação das organizações não governamentais na proteção do meio ambiente na Amazônia. Com o advento da Constituição da República em 1988, o meio ambiente ecologicamente equilibrado foi alçado à condição de verdadeiro direito fundamental de 3ª dimensão, vinculado, assim, ao valor fraternidade e solidariedade. O dever de efetivar tal direito fundamental é de todos: Estado, pessoas jurídicas de direito privado, coletividade e cidadãos individualmente considerados. Neste cenário, as organizações não governamentais, entidades privadas que perseguem uma finalidade de interesse público, ainda que pouco numerosas na Região Norte do Brasil, desempenham um importante papel na preservação da Amazônia, seja com a realização de pesquisas, seja com atuação sobre aspectos sociais que impactam no meio ambiente desse importante bioma.

    The present study deals with the role of non-governmental organizations in protecting the environment in the Amazon. With the advent of the Constitution of the Republic in 1988, the ecologically balanced environment was raised to condition of a true fundamental right of the 3rd dimension, thus linked to the value of fraternity and solidarity. The duty to enforce this fundamental right belongs to everyone: the State, legal entities under private law, the community and individual citizens. In this scenario, non-governmental organizations, private entities that pursue a purpose of public interest, although few in number in north of Brazil, play an important role in the preservation of the Amazon, whether by conducting research or by acting on social aspects that impact the environment. of this important biome.
