Este artículo analiza la música española en Estados Unidos, entendida como un elemento del “poder blando” utilizado por los gobiernos en su dimensión internacional. Desde la Segunda Guerra Mundial, las relaciones entre España y Estados Unidos han sufrido numerosos cambios los cuales están reflejados en la diplomacia musical desarrollada por ambos. El gobierno de Franco promocionó los bailes regionales para mejorar la percepción de España en la sociedad estadounidense y eliminar la imagen negativa de la guerra. Por otro lado, el gobierno norteamericano intentó cambiar el antiamericanismo español, desarrollado en la sociedad durante los años de la posguerra, a través del jazz.

This article analyses Spanish music in the United States of America, understood as an element of soft power used by the governments in their international dimension. Since the Second World War, the relationships between Spain and United States have suffered numerous changes which have been reflected in the musical diplomacy developed by the both. The government of Franco promoted the regional dances to improve the perception of Spain in American society and delete the negative image from the war. On the other hand, the American government tried to change the Spanish anti-Americanism, developed in its society during the post-war years, through jazz.
