Resumen de III‐Served by GRIST? Further Education Staff Development Under Threat
Following the issue of Department of Education and Science (DES) Circular 11/77 there was substantial growth in the number of Certificate in Education (FE) courses available to provide initial in‐service training for teachers in further education. This paper reviews some of the advantageous features of the provision, and considers some of the ways in which the new funding arrangements for grant‐related in‐service training (GRIST) are threatening the very existence of these courses. Finally, providing institutions, local authorities and the DES are challenged to respond in particular ways to maintain this critically important aspect of staff development.
