La ciencia bíblica, para evitar el riesgo de quedar reducida a una lectura literalista o bien meramente simbólica de la Escritura, trata de analizar el texto bíblico conjugando la historia con la teología. Se pregunta, así pues, qué hay de historia y qué hay de envoltura teológica, buscando responder a la significación del texto desde la crítica de la forma (los géneros literarios) y la crítica de la redacción (la evolución literaria del escrito). Aporta, de ese modo, una rica contribución a la recíproca interacción entre ciencia y fe, como pone de manifiesto el análisis de dos pasajes bíblicos en este artículo: el diluvio universal y la estrella de los magos de Oriente.

Biblical science, in order not to be reduced to a literalist or merely symbolic reading of Scripture, is proposed to analyze the biblical text by combining history with theology. Therefore, it has to discern how far history and theological envelopment go, while seeking to respond to the significance of the text from the criticism of the form (literary genres) and textual criticism (literary evolution). Thus, it makes a rich contribution to the reciprocal interaction between science and faith, as evidenced by the analysis of two biblical passages in the present article:
the universal flood and the star of the wise men.
