Para el autor, interrogar a la Sagrada Escritura sobre la identidad del laico supone captar en ella el significado global de Iglesia y de creyentes. Más que presentar una espiritualidad propia de los «laicos», se les insta a vivir la vida en Cristo y en el Espíritu dentro de la situación concreta de cada uno. Entre las figuras, personajes, y textos en los que aparecen los laicos en los Hechos de los Apóstoles, el autor analiza tres personajes con características propias: un matrimonio que rompe «la armonía» de la primera comunidad; un eunuco prosélito que amaba la Ley del Señor y era un buscador de la verdad; y un militar abierto a la fe israelita que junto a Pedro romperá las murallas de la incipiente iglesia judía.

The author argues that questioning the Sacred Scripture on the identity of the laity is tantamount to grasping in it the global meaning of the Church and believers.
Rather than featuring spirituality for «laity», the Scripture urges them to live life in Christ and in the Spirit from the factual situation of each one. Among the plenty figures, characters, and texts in which the laity appear in the Acts of the Apostles, the author analyzes three characters with their own features: a couple that breaks «the harmony» of the first community; a proselyte eunuch who loved the Law of the Lord and was a seeker of the truth; and a soldier open to the Israelite faith who together with Peter will break down the walls of the Jewish emerging church
